Bingsu Adventures I

 1. Nunsongyee

I'm sure many of you have heard of Nunsongyee before as it's one of the first bingsu places to arrive in Singapore!
I was really excited as it's my first time eating bingsu after seeing so many bingsu photos on instagram!! So I kept bugging my bff and she decided to go with me!
I still remember her exact words were "Okay let's go, you've been saying you want to eat bingsu since 3 months ago" when I dragged her to Nunsongyee with me HAHA

During February, there was Mango Bingsu on the menu! So we ordered 1 and tteokbokki to share!
The Mango Bingsu was really good! Fine, milky shaved ice that melts in your mouth, with the rich vanilla icecream on top and there's cheesecake and cookie crumbs hidden underneath!
Super duper yummy and it left me a good impression of bingsu!

Bff wanted to try tteokbokki as she's been watching Running Man and I would like to say the tteokbokki was not to our liking.
Without the sauce, the rice cake has no taste at all and although it was toasted and had a nice texture to it, the sauce didn't appeal to us at all! It was a little spicy and had a bit of garlic taste? We struggled to finish it....

Mango Bingsu 4/5
Tteokbokki 1.5/5

In addition, I went to Nunsongyee again with another group of friends as we went to the trampoline park beside!!!
This time round we tried the Oreo Bingsu and I really like it although my friends thought it was mediocre and not worth to pay $18 for this Korean ice kachang!
This Oreo bingsu has 1 scoop of ice cream on top and underneath and generous amount of cookie crumb! The Oreo they used is different from the usual Oreo and I like it a lot as I thought it's more crunchy!
I even joked and said this is the Korean version of Mcflurry haha but I felt that it's more worth to order other flavours as this has limited variety of ingredients!

Oreo Bingsu 3.9/5

2. Nunsaram Korean Dessert Café (Orchard Central)

When Nunsaram just opened, they had an opening special and there was free bingsu.
So off I went with Christine and some of her friends to grab some!!! I mean who rejects free food???
So pictured here is the Matcha Bingsu which was my favourite among the three!
I felt that Nunsongyee's bingsu is nicer as the shaved ice is more milky and the texture is softer.

Matcha Bingsu 3.1/5

Nunsongyee did Oreo Bingsu better as there were more ingredients! And the taste is just different, probably due to the addition of almond flakes..
The waiting time at Nunsaram was very long too although there weren't many people!

Oreo Bingsu 3/5

Cheesecake bingsu with a few cheesecake crumbs! There's not much cheesecake taste so I think it's not that nice as I personally thought that the cheesecake taste will be quite strong and rich.

Cheesecake Bingsu 2.9/5

3. Snowman Desserts (Nex)

Signature Melon Bingsu which was super duper average! The ice was really tasteless and we had to spam a lot of condensed milk!
We ordered the injeolmi bingsu to share as well and it was quite bad. (not pictured) The rice cakes were hard and not chewy and the bowl of ice is tasteless once again... The boy mentioned Binggojung's is nicer!

Snowman Desserts 2.4/5

4. Frozen Dessert Café (Clementi Vibe)

Real Brownie Bingsu which was really the worst out of the lot. I didn't wanted to give this place a try at all but Christine wanted so I just gave in....
Firstly, the brownie didn't taste like the ones from real brownie at all!!
The ice was super rough as well (worse than local's ice kachang) and I personally prefer fine, smooth texture for bingsu!
The bowl had a variety of ingredients though, vanilla icecream with koko crunch layered at the bottom and generous topping of brownie!
Shared this among the 3 of us and we couldn't finish it at all.... Totally wont come back here again.....

Brownie Bingsu 2/5

So here's the end of Bingsu Adventures I, looking forward to visit Binggojung and O'ma spoon soon!!

Thai food compilation (Nakhon kitchen, siam kitchen, thai express)

Siam Kitchen (@ NEX)
Was deciding what to eat at nex when my friend and I came across this restaurant at nex! Since my friend's a lover of spicy food, we decided to give this place a try!

So I cant really take tom yum or any super spicy food (and I don't wanna eat green curry like I always do), I ordered this dish! (I forgot what the exact name was, I think it's something like seafood glass noodle?)

It tasted good! Super flavourful just that it's quite oily..

And my friend ordered this tomyum egg omelette soup kind of thing? The soup was sour but the egg omelette thing (sponge lookalike, floating in the picture) was really weird as it doesn't have any egg taste at all! Both of us didn't really like it as we didn't expect it to be like that.

But the dessert, red ruby, was super yummy! I saw the other table ordering it and I can't help but order one too!
This, unlike the usual red ruby where it composed of coconut milk and shaved ice, this is coconut ice cream instead! The coconut ice cream is quite sweet but the taste is super refreshing, the water chestnuts was crunchy and the jackfruit slices on top was sweet!

Verdict: It really depends on your luck as this place is filled with nice and not so nice food!

Thai Express

I love this thai version of char kuay teow!!
Super flavourful with lots of wok hei taste but the dish in the foreground is not to my liking! It's some salad and it's spicy and sour!
I have reviewed thai express before so I wont be saying much!

Nakhon Kitchen (@ Holland Village)

So I went to nakhon kitchen today at their latest outlet over at holland v! I didn't know they had a new outlet as I couldn't find much information about it as well until my friend told me about it!
I have always wanted to try nakhon kitchen but the outlet at kovan is always filled with people and the queue is so long!!!
But the outlet at holland v doesn't have a queue at all!!

Thai iced milk tea ($3 each)! The colour gradient is pretty but I think the one in bangkok is really nicer as it's richer!

Clear tom yum chicken soup, green curry chicken, minced pork basil rice, pandan chicken (clockwise)

The entire meal was super spicy for me! Both of my friends who can take spice well said that the tomyum soup is spicy! (I didn't drink the soup after 1 mouth)
The green curry is yummy, slightly sweet and the sauce goes well with the rice!
I like the minced pork as well as the sauce is rich in taste, not the diluted kind! (but I felt that it was spicy too???)
The only thing not spicy was pandan chicken! I thought that it will be kind of sweet like satay (like the meat I ate in bkk) but it isn't! Quite disappointed but the chicken is super fragrant!!

Verdict: will definitely go back to nakhon kitchen again to try their other dishes (like pad thai which is highly raved by my friend!)

Holland Village I

Sunday Folks

(throwback, I went there when they just opened!)
When sunday folks just opened, there were a lot of pretty and highly raved instagram posts about it, thus I decided that I really need to go there and try it for myself!
So I went there 1 day after school, we didn't check their opening hours and we had to wait like 1hr outside the place for them to open! (Please do your research and don't be like us)

They have so many toppings and I was spoil for choice! Wanted to get everything and so thankful that my friends let me choose the toppings (we were sharing the waffle!)

In the end, I picked cheesecake, green tea nama and nama chocolate to go with our lavender earl grey soft serve and waffles! (blueberries and strawberries are complimentary)

The verdict: the waffles are not as yummy as wimbly lu's (they really have the best waffles in town) and the soft serve taste kinda like soap! But overall, it was a refreshing dessert! Oh and, the best topping was green tea nama, it was so good I wished there were more!

Plain Vanilla

Before we came in the cafe, we walked around holland village since we were early! Then, I bought some plain vanilla cupcakes!! The packaging is so classy and gorgeous!! (But it was a little hard to carry around though!)

And this is the cupcakes I got! Didn't get more because my family doesn't fancy sweet stuffs and I can't possibly finish them all on my own!

The verdict: the frosting of salted caramel was too sweet (on the left) but the cake is moist and dense! While banana milk chocolate (on the right) was not too bad but I didn't quite like the chocolate taste as I will prefer it richer and the dried banana on top had a plastic taste! (which I had high hopes for as I've baked  banana cake before with dried banana on top and it taste great)
So I was honestly quite disappointed with plain vanilla but I will give them another chance when I visit them another time!

D'good cafe (again)

It's been so long since I last posted something here. Wow
Spent my 2 month (2 weeks left) holidays working mmm...
Alright, let's get back on track! Today I will post about d'good cafe! Went there twice on separate occasions and I've tried their brunch and dinner!

So I actually went there on my 17th birthday! And if it's your birthday, you just have to show your IC to get a 4L large drink at the price of the normal sized one! Hehe the drink was gigantic and the 4 of us couldn't finish it!

They had their dinner set so it was quite worth it!
First it was the appetizer, tomato soup I think. I don't really fancy it so no thanks!

And there!! Our main course! Clockwise; chicken pie, eggs benedict, mushroom pasta, meatball pasta
The eggs ben was so yummy and I remember that I keep wanting more hehe but other than that, I think everything was on the average side.

And then my friends went to get their strawberry cheesecake!! It is on the light side, akin to japanese light cheesecake but we were too full from the huge drink and our food so we didn't finish it!
In addition, their ice cream (it came with the set) is not nice! Forgot why I didn't like it but it's definitely not worth the price if you order it alone.

Cafe complilation (Flock Cafe, Shop Wonderland, CAD Cafe)

 Flock Cafe

So excited to be going to tiong bahru (it's all full of cafes), cant wait to be back!! It's my first time there in that area as well! Quite hard locating the cafe as it is not easily accessible by mrt :( had to take a bus and walk after that! And the weather is totally not helping AT ALL!
 Oh well!
Ordered the Sally Salmon and Breakfast! Changed my eggs to scrambled eggs and it is good!! (Just that it was slightly over cooked and I saw on ig that it is supposed to be more watery!)
But, the portobello mushroom is the best!! Juicy and not too salty! Yummmmyyy!
Don't really like the choice of bread for eggs ben! And the smoked salmon is average... Price wise, abit high! It was about $45 for 2 mains and a drink.

Will totally go back for the mushroom!

 Shop Wonderland

Decided to meet up with a friend to cafe hop! Originally wanted to go to the stateland cafe and I didn't do my research properly as they are closed on tuesday... Super sad but oh well!
Went to this beautiful cafe! Only downside that it's a little small but it's cozy!
Even saw a grandparent bringing their granddaughter to the cafe to have tea break! The grandparents are super cute and I wish I can be like them when I grow old! hehe :')

So my friend and I shared a quiche and a cherry almond tart! We ordered an ice mocha and a iced chocolate too! Yummyy! The drinks came with ice cream and it was a pleasant surprise!
The quiche is so yummy, flavorful but not overpowering! (It is my first time trying it)
The cherry almond tart had a nice crust to it (a little crunchy! I like my tarts this way!) So it sort of tasted like a butter sponge cake (in the middle) with a biscuit-like crust!

Super rare to see such a beautiful cafe! Snapped a photo of its decorations! So gorgeous!

CAD Cafe

So I went over to haji with the intention of having french toast at stateland but it was closed and I was disappointed! Googled for some reviews and here I am for french toast!
Super friendly owners but the french toast is not to my liking... haha sorry to say! I thought that the french toast can be more crispy instead of dense! It is sort of like a pancake but more chewy? And the strawberry jam is slightly sour! I think it's meant for an appetizer haha

Very photogenic though!
