Thai food compilation (Nakhon kitchen, siam kitchen, thai express)

Siam Kitchen (@ NEX)
Was deciding what to eat at nex when my friend and I came across this restaurant at nex! Since my friend's a lover of spicy food, we decided to give this place a try!

So I cant really take tom yum or any super spicy food (and I don't wanna eat green curry like I always do), I ordered this dish! (I forgot what the exact name was, I think it's something like seafood glass noodle?)

It tasted good! Super flavourful just that it's quite oily..

And my friend ordered this tomyum egg omelette soup kind of thing? The soup was sour but the egg omelette thing (sponge lookalike, floating in the picture) was really weird as it doesn't have any egg taste at all! Both of us didn't really like it as we didn't expect it to be like that.

But the dessert, red ruby, was super yummy! I saw the other table ordering it and I can't help but order one too!
This, unlike the usual red ruby where it composed of coconut milk and shaved ice, this is coconut ice cream instead! The coconut ice cream is quite sweet but the taste is super refreshing, the water chestnuts was crunchy and the jackfruit slices on top was sweet!

Verdict: It really depends on your luck as this place is filled with nice and not so nice food!

Thai Express

I love this thai version of char kuay teow!!
Super flavourful with lots of wok hei taste but the dish in the foreground is not to my liking! It's some salad and it's spicy and sour!
I have reviewed thai express before so I wont be saying much!

Nakhon Kitchen (@ Holland Village)

So I went to nakhon kitchen today at their latest outlet over at holland v! I didn't know they had a new outlet as I couldn't find much information about it as well until my friend told me about it!
I have always wanted to try nakhon kitchen but the outlet at kovan is always filled with people and the queue is so long!!!
But the outlet at holland v doesn't have a queue at all!!

Thai iced milk tea ($3 each)! The colour gradient is pretty but I think the one in bangkok is really nicer as it's richer!

Clear tom yum chicken soup, green curry chicken, minced pork basil rice, pandan chicken (clockwise)

The entire meal was super spicy for me! Both of my friends who can take spice well said that the tomyum soup is spicy! (I didn't drink the soup after 1 mouth)
The green curry is yummy, slightly sweet and the sauce goes well with the rice!
I like the minced pork as well as the sauce is rich in taste, not the diluted kind! (but I felt that it was spicy too???)
The only thing not spicy was pandan chicken! I thought that it will be kind of sweet like satay (like the meat I ate in bkk) but it isn't! Quite disappointed but the chicken is super fragrant!!

Verdict: will definitely go back to nakhon kitchen again to try their other dishes (like pad thai which is highly raved by my friend!)

Holland Village I

Sunday Folks

(throwback, I went there when they just opened!)
When sunday folks just opened, there were a lot of pretty and highly raved instagram posts about it, thus I decided that I really need to go there and try it for myself!
So I went there 1 day after school, we didn't check their opening hours and we had to wait like 1hr outside the place for them to open! (Please do your research and don't be like us)

They have so many toppings and I was spoil for choice! Wanted to get everything and so thankful that my friends let me choose the toppings (we were sharing the waffle!)

In the end, I picked cheesecake, green tea nama and nama chocolate to go with our lavender earl grey soft serve and waffles! (blueberries and strawberries are complimentary)

The verdict: the waffles are not as yummy as wimbly lu's (they really have the best waffles in town) and the soft serve taste kinda like soap! But overall, it was a refreshing dessert! Oh and, the best topping was green tea nama, it was so good I wished there were more!

Plain Vanilla

Before we came in the cafe, we walked around holland village since we were early! Then, I bought some plain vanilla cupcakes!! The packaging is so classy and gorgeous!! (But it was a little hard to carry around though!)

And this is the cupcakes I got! Didn't get more because my family doesn't fancy sweet stuffs and I can't possibly finish them all on my own!

The verdict: the frosting of salted caramel was too sweet (on the left) but the cake is moist and dense! While banana milk chocolate (on the right) was not too bad but I didn't quite like the chocolate taste as I will prefer it richer and the dried banana on top had a plastic taste! (which I had high hopes for as I've baked  banana cake before with dried banana on top and it taste great)
So I was honestly quite disappointed with plain vanilla but I will give them another chance when I visit them another time!

D'good cafe (again)

It's been so long since I last posted something here. Wow
Spent my 2 month (2 weeks left) holidays working mmm...
Alright, let's get back on track! Today I will post about d'good cafe! Went there twice on separate occasions and I've tried their brunch and dinner!

So I actually went there on my 17th birthday! And if it's your birthday, you just have to show your IC to get a 4L large drink at the price of the normal sized one! Hehe the drink was gigantic and the 4 of us couldn't finish it!

They had their dinner set so it was quite worth it!
First it was the appetizer, tomato soup I think. I don't really fancy it so no thanks!

And there!! Our main course! Clockwise; chicken pie, eggs benedict, mushroom pasta, meatball pasta
The eggs ben was so yummy and I remember that I keep wanting more hehe but other than that, I think everything was on the average side.

And then my friends went to get their strawberry cheesecake!! It is on the light side, akin to japanese light cheesecake but we were too full from the huge drink and our food so we didn't finish it!
In addition, their ice cream (it came with the set) is not nice! Forgot why I didn't like it but it's definitely not worth the price if you order it alone.

Cafe complilation (Flock Cafe, Shop Wonderland, CAD Cafe)

 Flock Cafe

So excited to be going to tiong bahru (it's all full of cafes), cant wait to be back!! It's my first time there in that area as well! Quite hard locating the cafe as it is not easily accessible by mrt :( had to take a bus and walk after that! And the weather is totally not helping AT ALL!
 Oh well!
Ordered the Sally Salmon and Breakfast! Changed my eggs to scrambled eggs and it is good!! (Just that it was slightly over cooked and I saw on ig that it is supposed to be more watery!)
But, the portobello mushroom is the best!! Juicy and not too salty! Yummmmyyy!
Don't really like the choice of bread for eggs ben! And the smoked salmon is average... Price wise, abit high! It was about $45 for 2 mains and a drink.

Will totally go back for the mushroom!

 Shop Wonderland

Decided to meet up with a friend to cafe hop! Originally wanted to go to the stateland cafe and I didn't do my research properly as they are closed on tuesday... Super sad but oh well!
Went to this beautiful cafe! Only downside that it's a little small but it's cozy!
Even saw a grandparent bringing their granddaughter to the cafe to have tea break! The grandparents are super cute and I wish I can be like them when I grow old! hehe :')

So my friend and I shared a quiche and a cherry almond tart! We ordered an ice mocha and a iced chocolate too! Yummyy! The drinks came with ice cream and it was a pleasant surprise!
The quiche is so yummy, flavorful but not overpowering! (It is my first time trying it)
The cherry almond tart had a nice crust to it (a little crunchy! I like my tarts this way!) So it sort of tasted like a butter sponge cake (in the middle) with a biscuit-like crust!

Super rare to see such a beautiful cafe! Snapped a photo of its decorations! So gorgeous!

CAD Cafe

So I went over to haji with the intention of having french toast at stateland but it was closed and I was disappointed! Googled for some reviews and here I am for french toast!
Super friendly owners but the french toast is not to my liking... haha sorry to say! I thought that the french toast can be more crispy instead of dense! It is sort of like a pancake but more chewy? And the strawberry jam is slightly sour! I think it's meant for an appetizer haha

Very photogenic though!

Miam Miam

Went to Miam Miam for lunch for my friend's birthday earlier this month!!
Super excited to try because there's a lot of good reviews about this place!

Squid omu rice!
First time trying squid ink and it's quite nice! I thought that it would have a weird/foul taste to it but surprisingly nope!

I couldn't make up my mind on what to order and I ordered this in the end! Seafood pasta in tomato cream? The pasta is cooked to perfection, not too hard and not too soft, slightly chewy! The only concern was the portion size! It's too much! The seafood ingredients are fresh too!! And I love the tomato that came along with it, super "refreshing" after eating and eating the sauce! (thought that it would get jelat but it didn't!)

Bolgonese!! Most of their items come with eggs! Same comments as the pasta I had!

And their japanese curry souffle! The egg is so fluffy omg! I think this is how clouds will taste like!! The japanese curry tasted similar to the one at hoshino coffee! To me, hoshino coffee and miam miam are totally similar?!!

They had a DBS promotion and we were entitled to this free pancake!! Super yummy and the syrup came in a cute bottle! The ice cream lookalike thing on top is actually cream! It's salty and it's like butter! The pancake is crispy outside and not too dense! Perfect for those who don't like dense pancakes (think McDonald)

Total bill for 4 mains and 4 cups of ice water came up to a $77! Quite expensive but I think it's alright for the portion size! It is meant for sharing (I think...)

Pancake ❤❤❤❤❤
Squid ink rice ❤❤❤❤
Japanese curry souffle ❤❤❤❤
Seafood tomato cream ❤❤❤❤

Ma Maison

This is a super backdated post because I totally forgot to write a review about them!
I went to the outlet at anchorpoint and they are not officially opened yet during that time!
So the renovation and stuffs are pretty bad (there were thumb tacks everywhere?!!) and the service crews seemed pretty lost.
So I've heard about the tonkatsu at ma maison and that's definitely what I ordered!!

First up, tomato cream which actually tasted like hoshino coffee's tomato cream omu rice with mozzarella. Like seriously, legit. And it just happened that the friend that went to hoshino with me is the same friend that went to ma maison to dine (with me)!! So the two of us totally agreed that it tasted the same. lol

Dengdengdengdeng...
My tonkatsu set! Which came with a miso soup, rice and salad.
I love the potato salad!! Omg it is so good but so sinful so I didn't finish it... I think? And I love the salad because of the sesame dressing!
The tontaktsu is good... It is not oily and it is super crispy!! You cant taste any batter at all and it is super tender. There's also sea salt and some sauce to go with the tonkatsu but I prefer mine on its own! But do give it a try!

And my friend had the hamburger patty or something which she regretted! The taste is pretty average and it is not worth it for the price. I mean.... you go to ma maison for their tonkatsu and not anything else.

So in conclusion: eat tonkatsu at ma maison

My maiden experience at thai express [review]

So I can't really take spicy food well and I'll usually need like a bigggggggggggg cup of drink whenever I eat something spicy! I'm learning to take spice though.. if not I'll miss out a lot of yummy food! Therefore this is my first time at thai express!! I've heard a lot of bad reviews about it though...
ps. I've never tried Mcspicy although it's the most popular mac food in singapore
pps. I will wait for an eventful day to try it

First up, hor fun which my friend is/was having a craving for!! She said it's super nice (I was skeptical about it) and it beats pad thai hands down!
True enough, it's flavourful and there's the wok taste! I will eat this the next time I come to thai express!!

The thing about me is that I love green curry and I will drink buckets of water just to eat it. So whenever I'm eating thai food, green curry is my must order!
The green curry seafood (you can pick seafood/chicken) was a little too sweet but the rice is yummy! Fragrant rice (probably due to the pandan leaf)

I have no idea what's this I think it's something with sukiyaki and glass noodle!

I have no idea what's this too! I think it's laksa or something! It looks SUPER spicy right? But to my astonishment, it isnt!

And then we walked over to Marina (technically, the citylink mall) and had llao llao! I had sanum for two days in a row! (I had it the day before at 313 and the price is higher, $6.50 a cup while the one at marina is $5.90 a cup, I'm boycotting the 313 outlet LOL)
I picked the wild berries sauce as I had rafaello the day before! The wild berries sauce goes well with the yogurt and it tasted like meiji's blueberry yogurt with extra raisins! I picked muesli for my crunch and BOY IT WAS AWESOME!! I'm never going back to caramelized cookies. The muesli comes with bits of chocolates and it's so good with the yogurt!!!
okay done with my post
ps. don't order melon with the yogurt it tasted funny
pps. don't judge my choice of food

Itacho Sushi

Hello! My MST's (mid-semester tests) are over and I'm here to blog!!
So judging from the title, yes I'm going to talk about itacho sushi! It is my favourite place to go for sushi because it offers competitive prices (they always have daily specials up to 50% off!) and of course, YUMMY FOOD! :)

Before I start with the pictures, here is a fun fact about itacho!
Itacho is actually from hongkong and not from japan and some of the chefs (do I actually call them chef?) speaks cantonese while making the sushi!!

Ok.. before the pictures, I'm going to tell you something which you'll thank me for. I've been to the one at Ion, Bugis Junction and Plaza Singapura. And my first and only time at bugis junction was a major turn off. Sure, the place is much more spacious but the quality of the food is not up to standard!! I ordered the salmon mentaiko (the original priced ones) and the mentaiko that arrived is lesser than those if I order from the daily special menu! I WAS SO UPSET, I couldn't even taste the mentaiko in my mouth!
Let me show you how little it was...

Look at the ones at the top. Especially the middle one, WHAT IS THIS???!! (These are the original priced ones, $1.60/pc)
And then take a look at the bottom one.. (daily specials, $0.60/pc)
The butter ones are quite tasteless!

Look at the top right!! Fat chunk of mentaiko. That's how it is supposed to be. Talking more about the daily specials, you should go early to avoid any disappointments because it's on a whilst stocks last basis! Once I overheard two ladies beside me talking about how they have never ate the salmons from the daily specials before... and I'm eating mine. ^____^
And among all the salmon sushis from the special menu, I think the mentaiko one is the most worth it and yummiest!! Following will be the soy sauce ones!

I will usually try 1-2 different stuffs from their menu when I visit them! So this is what I tried during my most recent visit which was last/last last friday! I usually go to the one at plaza singapura because it is the nearest to me! :) So they changed their special menu and they had scallop (right in the picture)!! So.. of course I tried it. Not my ball of sushi... (pun?) the scallop is raw and it's weird.
And I tried the mango lobster one because my friend said it's nice! Yeap the mango is sweet and stuff but no I hate wasabi in my sushi and the wasabi is already premixed with the lobster salad :(

Supreme eel sushi and shrimp sakura cheese.. Something along that line. I love eel/unagi but this was abit dry! And it's reallyyyyyyyy huge. The sakura cheese shrimp was a waste of money. But its okay!! Like what my bf always say, spend money to learn a lesson. [very forgiving when it comes to food]

And then udon with chicken karaage and salmon roe chawanmushi. The udon is a miss because it's quite funny tasting. Japanese food and western sauce... mmm
I don't like the salmon roe chawanmushi as well! The salmon roe are salty and the chawamushi is sweet so it's quite weird!! Not to my liking. Order the scallop chawamushi!! Beats the crabmeat and salmon roe ones!

Unagi sushi! It arrived apart, sadly. My heart were apart too.

I forgot what are all these already.. But I think it's not bad! Like not one of my must have at itacho but I will order it another time!
Btw, when you spend more than $10/pax, the charge on green tea and wet tissue will be waived!! #cheapo

[continued]
last week I went to itacho again!! (plaza sing)

Look at the salmon!! The daily specials on top and the original priced ones below! I ordered a prawn mentaiko too because the bf said it's yummy. It is, indeed but it's priced at $5/pc *cries*
We ordered 20 of the normal priced ones... so $36 gone just for salmon

Let's take a moment to appreciate salmon mentaiko

And.. I didn't thought I would like this but it changed my mind! This clam with butter and pepper ($4, on their special menu) is super flavourful! Wouldn't have tried this if not for my friend!

Let me share my razzi view on the must have!
